JERUSALEM (Ma’an) – Israeli forces detained a 12-year-old Palestinian boy from the courtyard of his family home and assaulted him during clashes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir on Tuesday afternoon.
Locals told Ma’an that fierce clashes erupted in the area after Israeli forces stormed the main street near the neighborhood’s schools complex.
Israeli troops showered the area with tear-gas canisters and fired rubber-coated bullets in all directions. During the clashes Israeli troops assaulted 12-year-old Muhammad Abd al-Salam Abdo while he was standing in front of his family home. After the assault, Abdo was taken to an Israeli police station in Jabal al-Mukabbir for interrogation. His mother said she tried to escort him during interrogation, but the soldiers didn’t allow her.
Tear gas was also fired at the mourners’ tent of Udayy and Ghassan Abu al-Jamal who were killed after they attacked worshipers in a synagogue in Jerusalem on Nov. 18.
Mourners’ tents are usually set up for three days where people come to offer condolences, but in the case of Abu al-Jamal family, the tent has remained set because Israel hasn’t returned the bodies.
