GAZA, (PIC)-- More than 75,000 Palestinians, including nearly 9,000 children and more than 900 women have been arrested by IOF since the Aqsa Intifada on 28 September 2000, revealed Abdul-Nasser Farwana, a researcher in prisoners' affairs.
There are 215 children and 5 women, as captive Lena Jerboni who has been detained for more than ten years, are still detained in the occupation jails out of other 4,600 Palestinian prisoners. This number is changing constantly due to the ongoing daily arrests, Farwana said.
He also reported that among the prisoners there are 302 administrative detainees, 27 MPs and many political leaders, in addition to 3 former ministers and another former MP. He added that they are distributed over more than 17 prisons and detention centers most notably Nafha, Raymond, the Negev, Ofer, Megiddo, Hadarim, Ashkelon, Hasharon and Ramle.
Furthermore, Farwana noted that there are dozens of Arab prisoners from several Arab nationalities, especially from Jordan, Syria and Egypt in the Israeli jails.
Concerning the geographical distribution, Farwana said that the prisoners include 463 from the Gaza Strip, and 345 from occupied Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948, while the rest are from the occupied West Bank.
The researcher also stated that there are 535 prisoners who were sentenced to life while there are 62 other prisoners, who are called “Deans of the prisoners", have been held continuously for more than twenty years.
The "patience generals ", which is a term used by Palestinians to describe those who have been imprisoned for more than 25 years, reached 22 prisoners, Farwana revealed, noting that captive Karim Younes from Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 and detained since January 1983, is the dean of all prisoners and the oldest in the Zionist prisons.
